Dr. Daniel P. McCauliffe
Dr. McCauliffe grew up in West Pawlet, VT and Granville, NY. After graduating from Rensselaer (RPI) and Albany Medical College he completed a three-year training program in internal medicine and then served back a health professional scholarship obligation with the Air Force. He subsequently completed specialty training in dermatology, including a dermatology residency and an immunodermatology research fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX.
After completing his dermatology training, Dr. McCauliffe became a faculty member of the Dermatology Department at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC. He became the director of the Dermatology Clinics at the university and trained physicians to become dermatologists. He engaged in patient care and conducted research on dermatologic diseases. He has written over 70 scientific publications.
After nine years in NC he returned “home” to take over the dermatology practice of Dr. Donald McIntyre in Rutland, VT. Since returning to Vermont, Dr. McCauliffe has founded the Rutland Skin Center and is devoted to bringing state-of-the art medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatologic treatments to patients in the Rutland area.
Dr. McCauliffe remains active in academic pursuits. He is an Adjunct Professor of Dermatology at the University of North Carolina, in Chapel Hill where he travels periodically to teach doctors training to become dermatologists.
In his spare time he spends time with his family and enjoys the great outdoor activities that Vermont offers, including running, hiking, open water swimming, cross country skiing and kayaking. After all the years away, he finds it great to be back in Vermont.
